When is the threat of illness gone?

Had a bird I found last night sick/bonked not sure but it died. The rest are fine 24 hours later. I didn't eat their eggs just in case but am in the clear? Should I wait 48? A week?

I wouldn't wait to eat them. I've lost chickens and never stopped eating the eggs from the rest of the flock.

The good/bad with quail is that they're so small they die quickly. If the rest aren't showing signs of sickness, they're probably not sick.

I get freaked out when they die even though I know it just happens sometimes. I get paranoid. Thanks for responding. That other one prolly bonked anyway.

She sure looked like that's what happened. Hey, I just dropped a 1 day old chick from 5 feet. She took a minute (less actually) to compose herself, then ran over 10 others. I feel like crap, but she doesn't seem to. Most birds that die are probably just fine to eat, but I never do. It's hard to fight your cultural upbringing.

25 years ago I worked with a lot of Laotians and Viet Namese. They used to tell me - matter of factly - that they used to catch poisonous snakes so their family could eat. When I asked them what happened if one of the kids got bit, they just shrugged their shoulders and said that the kid died, but it happened sometimes. We are lucky to have grown up with an entirely different set of rules. Don't sweat it; it could have been worse
