When processing what method do you find best for killing? If your roo gets to old what does the testosterone do?

Thanks,
Michelle

if u could get a cone like they use beside road u could cut head off stuff in cone let him bleed out cone keeps him from slinging blood everywere.

I can not tell you about the testosterone does to the meat. But instead of use a road cone, I have seen people cut the bottem of a milk jug off and put the chicken head first into it, so the head is sticking out the normal opening of the jug and then cut the throat.

If you look up slaughtering chickens on youtube there are some really great videos with different methods. If i knew how to link it to here for you I would.

Today I did my first.
I simply held the perty girl wraped in a towel between my leggs and cut her throat. But I also broke her neck backwards to make she was dead as she bled out. Hope that helps you some.

But really check youtube!

Thanks, I will do that. I was just kind of wondering from people who have done it before what is the most humane. I am still having a little bit of a hard time actually coming to terms with it. I know it is the best thing to do because, at least I know this little ones have had a good life and I don't really want to support the places that take the food to the store to sell. I mean I don't know what those chickens had to go through so I just don't want to support it. Not to mention when you do a hatch you get so many roos and can't keep them.

My husband just wraps them in a towel and sits holding them mostly on their back and holds out their neck to make the cut with his free hand. When in a towel on their back they sit pretty still. Some of them flail as they die but not alot and the towel keeps the wings and such from flapping around.
