I received a beautifully packed dozen of eggs today that didn't smell right when I first opened the box.
One of the eggs were cracked and stunk to high heaven

but the rest were fine, air cells looked great, too.
I have received 100s of shipped eggs before some in great shape some smashed but I have never had an egg arrive rotten.
It took 4 days to arrive here halfway across the country but could an egg go bad in that amount of time?
Luckily it didn't leak on any good eggs but it does have me doubting the age of these eggs.

Yuck-O! It seems to me the egg the egg could not possibly have gone bad in four days. It must have been kept in some pretty warm conditions prior to and/or during shipment to be a stink-bomb by the time it arrived a few days later. In any case, I would definitely notify the seller and let them know. If I were the seller, I would like to know about a problem like this.

I'd also be veeeeery careful with the others.

Every part of this transaction was perfect, except for this one egg.
I really want to give the seller the benefit of the doubt.

Things definitely happen in the post office. I sell custom egg carton labels and have never had a problem with them arriving in perfect condition until recently. I don't know exactly what is going on with the USPS, but they're really roughing things up with no regard for the contents lately- live or not.

I'm sure if the eggs were packaged as well as you indicated initially, the seller sounds diligent. There are just some things that are out of a seller's control. I'd write to let them know what happened just for their information, but I would certainly not expect anything like an offer of a replacement egg as all the others were fine.
