My chicks are now about six weeks old and growing fast, I was recently at the fed store to get some more starter food and had seen some chick grit and contemplated buying some. my chicks have eaten all the grass in the run and have been eating the occacianal watermelon treats on these hot days we've been having. I have been lettting them out into the yard in the evenings when home from work, they are eating the foliage like crazy, they are pooping like crazy and it all looks healthy:D Do they need the grit or are they getting enough from the soil around?

If they are eating grass and watermelon seeds without problems, they are getting all the grit they need from the soil.

If they are free ranging, they will get grit the olf fashioned way. You should supply them with some if you give them treats and will not be letting them out that day, I would provide them with grit to make sure they have some if they need it.
