when should my babies start using a roost in the brooder?

Mine are actually roosting on the handles of snow shovels! I layed 3 of them on bricks and up they hop. I will have to build something a bit taller soon, I know, but for now it was a cheap, easy solution. lol

I put a thick branch in there from the beginning. The get up there a few days after I get them and some will sleep, some dont. When I move them to the brooder in the shed they fly up to the perch I made (at about 3-4 weeks). Now they are 5 weeks old in the coop and sleep on the roost at night.

Ok, thanks. maybe my stick isn't large enough diameter. I brought a tree branch in about the size of a dowel. I have old broom stick handles, maybe I'll try one of those. Its bigger around-they may like it better.
