Ive got a broody hen sitting on 5 eggs, they are due their day21 early next week, ive read that im not suppost to move the hen if i hear cheeping coming from under her as she will look after them but im wondering if when all of them are hatched if i would be able to pick them up/handle them or would i risk her disowning them and thinking that she doesnt need to care for them or wont she let me get anywhere near them as she will be protecting them?
as you can probably tell im a first time hen hatching chicks owner and its all new to me, ive learnt a lot from this forum and still am learning more!
hope some1 can help me with this one x

I don't have an answer for you since I'm working with my very first broody now and she's not due to hatch her little ones until the 28th, but hopefully someone on here will. Best wishes to you - hope you have a great hatch!

My experience is that she will probably "peck the dickens out of you" IF you even attempt to handle the chicks!

IF you do handle the chicks, WEAR GLOVES! (NOT to protect the chicks, but to PROTECT YOURSELF !!!)

My last fist 2 broodies took the chicks back no proublem...The hens didnt likeme holding their babies...
Now this last broody will proubly try and take my hand off so i have think winter gloves for checking her chicks due to hatch this sunday....
She gives me the ebil eye every time i go near the broody pen....
