Hi all - I bought 15 Khaki Campbell hatching eggs and had 5 hatch over the past two days. Of the remaining eggs, one started hatching, it broke through the shell, then died. After waiting a day I opened up the egg and saw it was fully formed but the egg sac was enormous and it looked like it hadn't been absorbed at all. Of the remainder, it seems like 5 were not fertilized - the eggs do not candle at all - and four are candling well, though only one is moving inside the egg, and started to break through the shell but hasn't fully broken through yet (one side of the egg is cracked, but not opened up yet).
My questions - I was thinking of chipping away at this egg tomorrow (day 29), but I also don't want to assist and kill the chick accidentally. I was also thinking of waiting until 30 day. Any advice? Similarly, my last quail hatch I ended up saving three chicks by simply cracking the eggs after waiting beyond the normal hatch time and seeing what was there. Three were alive and healthy inside the egg but just never pipped. I do plan to do that for all the duck eggs but was looking for advice on when. I was thinking of calling it by day 30 or 31.
Thanks
