Hi, I have a couple of Broody hens and have move the first one away from the flock as this is the first time that I have tried to hatch chicks. Yesterday was day 21 of my dates were actually correct. One egg was broken when she tried to tuck it and the chick wasn’t mature enough to hatch so it unfortunately was lost. A second started to Pip yesterday evening and I let it be to hatch. When I checked this morning the chick had not hatched but had made the opening process 3/4 around the shell but it had already not made it. 😔 Today is 22 but some 21 as I was not able to get all other eggs away in the beginning. All have candled with chicks, so my question is what day would I want to intervene and assist in hatching process? Thanks!

I'd leave well enough alone. It can take more time than you think for the unzipping process. Keep checking, but for now, don't touch. Must be exciting for you!! :hugs

Yes it is! And nerve wracking! 😆 This particular Broody is one of my two Black Marans. She is one of my favorites. My second one is one of my Araucanas. They are also faves. My Rooster is a Barred Rock.
