hi! Hope im posting in the right place. I’m looking to purchase one single duckling to raise as a companion to my sweet female Pekin. We lost her companion a bit ago but we are needing a duckling so we can raise it in a similar way to her. (We raise them as pets and spend lots of time with them) Ive found a company that has some available Feb 28. Our last frost is supposed to be April 1. ( Virginia Beach )Do you think If I ordered the Feb 28 day old duckling that I could bring her outside to learn about outside and spend time with my Pekin in April? With Prim (Pekin) I would take her outside when she was around that age with us to play and stuff. Idk if that’s still going to be too young for the chilly weather though. Thoughts?

Heres one of my birbs born september then 2 months later hes in a pool in the snow

Ide say your good togo aslong as it has heat for a month or untill sensible weather arrives

Are you willing to keep it indoors or atleast warm for 2 months of nessicary?

I think that by that age, since she will have most of her feathers, that she can certainly start taking trips outdoors. Initially you will need to watch her behavior to see if she is getting cold. Cold ducklings may shiver, tend to stand still and be less active, may alternate standing on one leg or lie down a lot to tuck in their feet. Start by taking her out only at the warmest part of the day and you can slowly increase the time. Eventually she may be able to stay out all day, but still sleep in your house, and then ultimately spend 24 hours a day outdoors. Good luck acclimating her. I think the timing should be ok, ducklings grow so fast! (also keep an eye on the weather for any particularly cold spells)
