Hello!
My chickens (heavies) are about 10 weeks old and they has gotten very big. Now we're trying to figure out if we can take them off the chick starter feed and to the next step up of food. So what are your guys' opinions on when to change feed? (I'm obviously a complete novice at chicken raising).

If you are on Starter/Grower then keep them on that. It should be around 17% protein. If you are still on a chick starter that is 20% protein then I'd switch to grower now. Don't feed layer until they are laying since it has a lot of calcium.

I was wondering when should you switch the chicks to grower? Mine are 4 weeks and they are on chick starter! Do I switch them to grower at 10 weeks or sooner???

After doing some research on BYC, I ended up switching my girls to grower around 7 weeks. We were running out of the medicated starter so I figured it was time to switch to an unmedicated grower feed. We are currently using Nutrena Nature Wise and the website indicates to switch to Layer feed at ~16 weeks.
