When to feed grit

where do you get grit? I've never seen it before but then again i never really looked for it as i havent had noticeable issues before. makes sense though. i raise my birds for laying so i want feed conversion to be optimal esp. up here as our climate is very cold in the winter months.
 
It's available at feed stores, in chick sizes, and bigger for adult birds. It's cheap and good insurance, even if your older birds range, and can find their own. Chicks need it early, at least as soon as they are eating anything other than chick starter. I agree with giving it early!

well i found the bigger grit for adult birds but no small grit so i gave them some fine gravel from a clean spot in my yard. after pecking thru it, they all took a dustbath.
