When to give chicks grit?

When do I need to give it to them? (They'll be here next week- I don't have any yet and now I'm wondering if I need to pick some up!) Thanks!

Just hit the "Search" button, and search for the word "grit" in the topic headers... lots of threads already started.

But, for the record, I have never supplied grit and they do just fine.
