I currently have 5 hens which have just started to lay! In this excitement a bigger coop was built that has 64 sq ft of space inside and a run area of over 220 sq ft. This gives me enoug room to add 10 more girls.

In my basement are wonderful growing chirping birds in brooders. How many weeks should they be before letting them hang out in the coop/run with not being able to get at each other?

The hatch date of the first set was 1/2/13 and the new group 5/28/13. Soon it will be warm enough for them not to need the heat inside. Can I brood them the rest of the way in the coop? What age would you reccomend?

Sorry for all the questions but thought this ws the best place to get advice.

Thank You.

I brood in the coop from day one, and this time of year they don't want to be near the heat at 3 weeks, even with lows in the 60's. I would probably put the chicks outside between 2 and 3 weeks. It is safest to mix them when they are all the same size, though.
