I'm in eastern Washington state. It was 60 about yesterday. I left the chicks and ducklings outside in the garden all day(no plants there yet). They seemed to love it, or really hate it...the chicks were digging a hole, either to escape...or something I'm not sure I want to know....
I had the dogloo set up with bedding, the heat lamp hanging under the coop in the corner, a rubbermaid tote on its side they could go in, food, water, a pool for the ducks(ignored totally), I threw some greens and grass clippings in for them, and I had my partner check on them every 1-2 hrs.

Well, its been in the 80's and low 90's then suddenly frost twice in 1 week!! So i brought them in, they are in my bathroom right now squaking to go back out. I'm going to put them back out in a bit, but will have to bring them back in tonight as its to be in the 30's again. Cant wait for Mother Natures Bi-polar episode to settle down!

Maybe they were digging a hole for a dust bath. Mine do that when I give them a tub of soil from the yard, they have a really good time with it.
Tonight, they are in the coop. First night outside. It's supposed to drop to 39, but i have the heat lamp in one corner o they should be ok. I'm still nervous.
I have a little dilemma though...the ducklings...do I put them in the coop to? doc the duck leaves them alone when in the yard, but if we are giving the chicks attention he will nip at them...
