I have some 6 week old chicks that I slipped under a broody silkie when they were 3 days old... PRECIOUS! She's raised them very well. I keep them in a mini coop with her at night, but they have been integrated with all of my other hens all day since they first arrived. My question is, when is it safe to let them roost in the big coop w/ the big hens? My concern about doing it right now is that they could get hurt in the morning when the big hens jump down from the high roost... but I sure would like to get them together at night as soon as I can.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thank you!!!!

I have the exact same question!!! I looked it up on here, but didn't find much. What I did read said to give them an area of shelter that they can run to and get away from the older gals. I am going to put a dog kennel in the yard and fix it so only small chicks can get thur the door. I think I will keep some feed in there too, so they can eat in peace.

Mine are not quite feathered out fully yet, so I have a couple more weeks to solve this problem. I hope some chicken god answers your thread.
