Keep in mind I have 2 different brooding areas. My youngest chicks still has a heating lamp (they are between 1 and 2 weeks old) but my oldest chicks hasn't had their heating lamp on since they were just about 4 weeks old. The oldest chicks are nearly 5.5 weeks old now and are fully feathered. They quit getting anywhere near the heating lamp even though it was high over them so I removed it since they wasn't using it.
Where I live though is 105-110 in the daytime and in the 80's at night right now. Even the little chicks that only has wing feathers doesn't really go around the heating lamp except maybe at night.
Watch your chicks and they will give you a clue if they still need it or not. If they are still going under it then let them keep it a while longer and if they are staying away from heat then it is time to remove it.
