When to start puppies on 'real' food? (PICS post #13)

at about 4 weeks we take them out of the welping box and let them have some moistened puppy food. whatever they will eat in 5 minutes and put them back with their mother. this is a good time to worm them. at 6 to 7 weeks they can be weened from the mother dog who will be very thankful that her milk can dry up. we use the purina pro plan puppy food but used to use puppy chow. feed them the dry puppy food until 6 months then mix in some adult gradually until they are eating the adult.

It seems they're always sleeping, but I'm sure that will soon change! These puppies are 1/2 rat terrier and 1/2 beagle, guess we didn't keep her 'put up' good enough

Oh, and just for drool purposes, here are some pics of the other (outside) puppies we have. These are mostly beagle, mom is 88% pure but we don't know what she is mixed with (grandma was mixed 1/2 beagle/ 1/2 ??)

Notice the EYES on these puppies, so pretty!

I wormed mom when the pups were 2 weeks old, do I need to worm the pups themselves or does this work?

And I'm not planning on force-weaning them, but I do know that they start eating solid foods before they are weaned. Since they don't have access to mom's food like all our other puppies have had, I wasn't sure when to offer it to them.

I have an awesome rat terrier that I got at the pound. He's been there for three months !!!! without being adopted. My son was looking at the pics and said 'Look, Mom! baby Bandits!'

i start my puppies at 3 weeks on puppy mush(dry food soaked in water) they make a total mess at first but that's what mom is for, clean up duty, they go to dry food at 6 wks by then their mothers are only in with the puppies when they want, they jump in get their milk relieved and then back out, my pupies do great that way
