My first 50lb bag of layer food was crumbles since that is what they were used to. Is there a certain time to switch to pellets? Is there a reason to switch?

Thank you but I do not eat the chicken food! ha ha....no seriously..... I'll stop, so I guess it doesn't matter to them, cool.

Is it cheaper, I'm still not sure why one would prefer the pellets over the crumbles, especially if the chickens aren't as fond of it?

Pellets are a lot less waste. If they fall on the floor they get picked up rather than just wasted. My older hens prefer pellets because it's quicker to eat. The transition is sometimes hard because especially banties, they are big compared to the crumbles.

I switched mine to pellets as soon as they started laying. Pellets are not wasted like the crumbles are. Just alot easier to deal with, in my opinion. It does take them a while to get used to them. When I started them on pellets....they all came running, saw the pellets, and just looked at me like I was crazy. So I sprinkled some crumbles over it. They got the idea quick.
