When to switch my peeps from grower food to layer food?

I have been doing a lot of reading and everyone seems to have different schedules. I am new to chickens so I know I have a lot to learn. I get my feed from a local feed store he recommended that we keep our chickens on starter/grower feed until they are six months or start laying eggs, most of my chickens are 5 months. A few of my hens have started laying this past week. But I also have several hens who are several months younger than the others. So i'm a little concerned about switching them to layer feed just yet.

I have also been told that we can't eat the eggs while they are on grower/starter feed. Are we ok to cook the eggs and give them to our dogs? They love scrambled eggs but we have not wanted to give them anything that could harm them.

Thank you for any feedback that anyone can provide my peeps and I appreciate it!!

I would give it to them when they start laying. I think after the first bird begins it should be fine.

I haven't heard anything about not eating the eggs while on grower feed. I know I did, woops! LOL But hey, I'm still alive!
