When to switch to layer feed?

My chickens are about 26 weeks old. We finally got our first egg today!

They are still eating medicated chick feed. Should I go ahead and switch over to layer feed?

Yes, at that age it's good to have them on layer feed. Congrats on the egg!

Hi,

Manufacturers differ from each other but the directions on my feed are as follows:

Feed starter (medicated) for the first 8 weeks, then switch to grower (unmedicated) for an additional 10 weeks, for a total of 18 weeks.

After that, the layer pellets should be fed.

I have been following the directions and everything seems to be fine. My first hen started laying at about 19 weeks.
