When will a new hen sit on eggs

Hi my young Cochin hen is almost a year old she has 8 eggs but has not sit yet when will new hens sit on eggs?

Hens with the broody instinct usually start brooding when they have 10-15 eggs in the nest. However, many times I've had hens start brooding with 6-8 or 15-22 eggs.

I'm waiting for hens to go broody too. My Yokohama has 10, the two bantam phoenix have 4 and 10, and a serama with just 2.

I've had the Yokohama for years and always she has gone broody with 12. The serama always 6 or 7. The phoenix are new so it's wait and see. Hens usually lay close to the same number of eggs each time if their nests are left undisturbed.
