i have a 7 chickens 4, 18 week olds and 3, i think 8- 10 week olds.

the rooster is a silver laced wyandotte, the rooster is starting to breed the hens but they seem to want nothing to do with him, some times hes nice and will do a half assed dance but mostly he likes running them down. the big hens are scared to death of him when he does this he ignores the younger ones for now. The problem is he tries to get some action before bed and the hens go out of the way to avoid him and they cant get in the coop with out confronting him.

like tonight i had to chase him away with a broom and try and herd a hen out of the woods at the same time because he was determined and wanted her and only her before bed time and kept chasing her back in to the thickets where she could avoid him.

Will he calm down when his hormones drop or will he always be a amorous PITA now that hes old enough to want to mate.

he keeps doing it there are two hens that would rather sleep out side with all the predators about, then sleep in the coop because he keeps chasing the other two off to be with one hen ad wants nothing to do with the other two.
