My first set of chcikens laid about 24 weeks, the second set at about 26 weeks. So about 6 months old. It takes forever!

Figure 6 months and then be surprised if it happens earlier. You'll drive yourself nuts if you start expecting them before they're ready.

Are you planning on having a roosters. Mine started laying at 22 weeks because i have roosters. My friend's started laying at 36 weeks because she had none. When the roosters jump on their hens it makes the hens bodies mature to lay that much quicker.

Now where did that idea come from?? If it were true, commercial establishments would keep roosters, they don't. Maturity is generally determined by breed while the type of feed and how the chicks are raised can help but having a male around won't mature females any faster whether they are chickens or humans.

You would have to research each breed, since different breeds come into lay at different times.
Production hybrids start as early as 4 months. Other breeds can take 6-8 months or even close to a year.

No, we cant have roosters because of our neighbors... I dont think they would like a cockadoodledoo at 6:30AM!!!!
