I have two EEs that are the youngest of my girls, 22 weeks tomorrow, Phoenix and Hawk. Phoenix looks like one of the big girls now just a bit smaller. Hawk on the other hand still looks young, maybe it's the puffy cheeks (Phoenix is smooth faced.) When we first made the chicken run we thought it was big enough for the girls and it was until they cleared it out and had no more weeds to pick at just a little bit of grass. It was after about a week that I noticed poor Hawk had her tail picked really badly, only two feathers left. Hubby and I very quickly expanded the run to three if not four times as big as it was. They have much more room now (obviously) and have tons of weeds and grass to pick at thanks to all the rain.

What I'm wondering is, are these girls laying somewhere in the expanded run since they are on the bottom of the pecking order (esp. Hawk) or have they just not started yet? I thought we got a beginner egg a couple weeks ago but nothing since then and it was brown not green/blue. I know that EEs can lay anything but I'm really hoping I don't have a brown egg laying EE.

My EE was around 24 weeks when she finally laid her first egg!

I got my EEs last summer, and they just started laying this very early spring.

Whew! Thanks for the replies, I'm so glad I don't have to go on an egg hunt! It wouldn't have been a problem when the run was smaller but now that it's huge, there are lots of hiding places.
