We had recently brought home 3 Muscovy hens for a Muscovy drake that we picked up a month ago. They are all around a year old. Both owners said that we should get quite a few eggs/chicks by August. (We are in Southern Illinois incase location is a factor). We are curious as to when they may start laying? The male is no longer shy with us, but the hens are still little off standish.

last year my first hatch was spring break and my last one was december 2nd so they lay / hatch eggs most of the time, but i am in central texas. so i would excpect eggs in MAX a month.

Stress can reduce/stop laying in mallard derived breeds as it is an indicator that it is not safe to have babies. I don't keep muscovy ducks, so I'm unaware if they continue to lay in stressful situations, like moving.

Your new ducks are beautiful.

Thank you! We were also able to pick up 8 ducklings. So, hopefully when they mature and start laying it will encourage the others to do so as well if they haven't at that time.

I see it! 😂 My mother says he looks like Howard the Duck.
I mean both are duck aren't they? 😂

By the way I have the same question now. How long did it take for them to start laying after you bought them?

I bought 8 months old 2 female muscovies for my drake around 2 days ago.
Thanks.
