One of my young golden comets went broody on me.
She had been broody for about 2 weeks and I finally
broke the brood by putting her under a basket on the ground.
Took 2 days and 3 nights. Some one told me you can forget
about eggs from her for a while. She was looking pretty bad
and her comb and wattles went pink. She is eating and looking
some better now and her comb is leaning towards the red again.
Well today she squatted again. She hadn't done that for about
3 wks. Do you think she will again start laying real soon??
I did get an odd looking egg today smaller than usual and the
shell looked grainy. Do you think that was her egg??

This is my first experince with a broody hen.

It could very well be her first egg after being broody. Three weeks out is about right for a hen that was in good shape before going broody to start laying again.

oh thank goodness i just and my first experiance too hope my favorite RIR lays a gain soon...

thanks

This isn't a brooding issue but I wondered if my girls would give eggs after being terrorized by a varmint invasion leaving some dead. This picture shows what I call a "Trauma Egg" and it was two days later before I got any eggs at all !! Such a horrible sight to walk into. Anyone else experience such an ordeal?
