When will they start laying?

My oldest girls are 15 weeks now... when will they start laying? Do different breeds start at different ages?

Depends on the breed.

Average? 19 weeks. Some breeds will be sooner, and many will be later. When their faces get blood red, and you see squatting behavior, you're getting closer.

Hi Jessleeh,

I think that you are right that different breeds generally will sart laying at different times.

15 weeks is early for even the earliest of breeds, that I have heard can begin at 16 weeks. My Barred Rocks were 6-months old when they began laying so that is about 24 weeks. You know the appearance will change and the combs and wattles will look more red and larger when the pullets are about ready to lay.

Post back when they begin to lay, and let us know when they started and which order they began to lay.

i have 2 BSL's that started laying monday, they're 15.5weeks. got mushy small eggs. today i got 1 perfect medium egg!

Two of my eight golden comets started laying yesterday. They are 16.5 weeks.
