I have 7 red-sexlink hens hatched March 30th...they are quite large now. When can I expect them to start laying eggs?
I also have 10 buff orppintons, hatched April 20th, when will they be laying?
I also have an assortment of roos...Do I have to keep a rooster to have eggs on my table, or can I just eat my roos as they get big enough?

My chicken began laying at 5 or 6 months. It varied. Also, you do not have to have roosters to get eggs!

Hi,

Most of my chickens have started laying at about 5 months, give or take a couple of weeks. I have heard that some breeds do take a little longer. And, no, there is no rooster needed to have eggs! Good luck!
