When will they start???

Howdy...

My last round of chicks hatched on April 20th...None of them are laying yet...They are Orpington/Auracana mix...Any ideas when I can expect eggs???

Do they show any signs of maturing - enlargement and reddening of comb and wattles ? Given the shortening day light length, conceivably they might wait until spring.

Actual Araucana or Easter Egger? Orpingtons and Araucana can be very slow to mature, often taking about 8 months to start laying. Easter Eggers are typically faster to develop, usually starting to lay between 5 and 6 months of age.

Normally the hens will start laying around 5 to 6 months old. Feed them laymish crumble , this feed

My Ameraucanas were hatched the end of February and they just started laying. Give it a couple of months.

Layer feed will not make pullets start laying any sooner. In fact, the lower protein content can actually slow development.
