When your chickens are actually tiny dinosaurs.

about the same, but by 2 weeks you should be seeing the slight curl on the wing feathers. it will also depend on how much curl they have as to if they are frizzle, or double frizzle.

wow that's cheap. over here its rare to pay less than 5 bucks for a chick aged one day... **** inflation and prices. yes you will have to put some pics up as they age :)

I shall. n.n The Austraorpington hasn't started walking normal yet, it that normal? It's been an hour or two since he hatched..

EDIT: Turns out, I have BLUE Cochins. :T And I think a 'splash'?

possible to get splash, as they do exist. they will be a light blue grey to start with, and you wont really know until they get older. it is possible that there is something wrong with his leg, but keep an eye on him it may just be that he is getting used to moving round

Ah, I see.. The one I've got is mostly white with a couple blue flecks on her... Wonder what she'll grow into..

As for the Austraorpington.. How long until I know his legs are wonky? And what do I do if they are?

I'm sorry I don't know much about wonky legs. there are differing things such as spraddle/ straddle leg. and bent toes etc etc. bent toes are not problematic but the others can be . certain vitamins can help but sorry this isn't really my domain. there are lots of forums on here to help :)

Hi

I am posting on this thread because I was smiling while I read it and wanted to keep-in-touch with any dinosaur news :)

I have 5 bantam dinosaurs who have not killed anything bigger than a small lizard, but have been known to trap a dove in their run and remove all it's tail feathers. I was thinking I would not see that dove again but it came back the next day; it was pretty easy to spot with no tail feathers.

My little dinosaurs have their own Bug Bank (aka, compost bin). Hubby started this thing where he would go out in the garden and sift through the dirt in the compost bin and scoop out some bugs, ensuring they all got equal amounts, 2-3 each.

Every time I go anywhere near the Bug Bank to put scraps in, I now have a captive audience and have to explain "no bugs today".

Does anyone else's chickens do the slow, high leg lift while in long grass? I laugh when mine do that because they look even more like little dinosaurs doing the dinosaur-walk :)

@Teila OMG YES!!! mine do that to, and in long grass they squat down so all you can see is bum feathers and then they pounce in a spastic motion and chase each other... sometimes I think they forget that they are chickens
and lol at the bug bank, I used to have a large worm farm that was regularly raided for worms....
