Hi All!

I am currently raising my third batch of baby chicks in the brooder (Buff Orpington, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Cuckoo Maran and a Partridge Rock) My question is for the partridge rock experts out there as I have a barred plymouth rock, but no experience with the partridge variety until now. Is the PR a slow feathering breed? She was the smallest when she arrived and the other three are growing like crazy, but the partridge is a little smaller and slower to feather in. They were 4 weeks old yesterday and I have had roosters in the past... I know it may take a few more weeks to fully see who is going to lay and who is going to crow... but the partridge has me stumped! I am 99% sure the other breeds are pullets, the PR acts like a hen, looks like a hen and was sexed (I know not always accurate) Thoughts on what to look for specifically for the partridge rock breed? Including pics for your reference, although it may be too early to tell!

day old (look how tiny!)

I say pullet. Look at the wee thin legs and complete lack of comb color and growth.
Of course, it's always possible that it's a very slow maturing, sneaky cockerel, but it doesn't scream male yet.

Possibly a bantam if smaller than the rest, hard telling.

Thanks

I will continue to post pics so as we learn we can all learn together. Her breast is coming in brown and I know that is a female tell for the Partridge Rocks. She is not loud, does not boss anyone around and has small legs and no sign of waddles or a red comb as of today. I say as of today loosely as I know chicks can change on a day by day basis lol! Any other tells for the partridge rock I should be looking for? Is leg color a thing with this breed?

Thanks all! I know it may be too early to tell... it may be a she or a sneaky slow growing he lol. For what it is worth she was sexed, had two sized primary feathers (I did the feather sexing but don't know if it is valid for this breed lol) aaaand did the old wives tale of hanging a gold ring on a string for a laugh and to entertain my hubby lol. All three pointed to a she... would love any more thoughts and opinions - but will continue to update this thread to keep all informed!
