No, it's the same as pic #2. Is that a roo too?

Yes, the chick in pic 5 is a roo.

I suspected as much... The comb gives it away, huh? I was REALLY REALLY hoping that at least ONE of them was a hen.

Yes, the comb was quite big and red, they are really pretty though. What breed are they?

Really, wild and PRETTY! I tried to get some RRI's over this spring break week (my chicken project start time) but they were all sold out locally. I did find a pretty red sex link, she's pretty too. My 2 little guys are only several days old, they grow fast from your pics. Cool!

I do love the coloring on your chickens... If I stare at them long enough I might even convince myself to join your project. LOL

They are a cross between RIR and a White Rooster... (breed still unknown). At least my dainty little pullet I KNOW will grow up to lay eggs and that means I can keep her.

Are you going to keep your roos? They are very cute. Your hen is just so cute,

Yes, if we could just swap out eggs, that would be super!

And if you want to become a full-fledged "member" of the project, all it would involve is breeding towards big, mottled chickens. Kinda seems like you're leaning that way, already! LOL.

If you want to breed for red and white mottled, that's awesome! The barred ones have been a problem for us, though. They start out really cool, with barring mixed in with white patches. But eventually, the barring just seems to "take over" and they end up . . . barred. Such a bummer, because as chicks they look awesome.

Anyway, if the "reds" look different from the chicks by the barred roos, that's no prob, we can cull those out and keep the red ones only. We're looking for fresh bloodlines to keep things strong here. I took some more photos of my new girls, gotta upload them still. Will post more later!

Going through a little lull in laying on a couple of my hens - Kona and Ginger seem to be taking a vacation this week.

I could let you know when things pick up and I've gathered a dozen if you want to do the same? Maybe trade in a couple weeks or so? I'm thinking of worming everybody which would require me waiting a couple of weeks, anyway. What do you think?

Sommer

Will post more updated pics later!

Here are a couple of recent Aloha chicken photos:

The new hen, "Karma" - I have her eggs in the 'bator now, hopfully she's been with the roo long enough to make them fertile?

More photos of "Ginger" now that she's filled out. She isn't laying at the moment, darn her:

Here's a photo of Vanilla, the head roo, with the hens (from left to right) Cloudy, Mystic, Karma and Kona.

Sommer, those birds are BEAUTIFUL!

I ended up breeding this mix because DH wanted a WHITE rooster. Who would've thought the offspring would be this pretty. LOL.

My original TEN chickens I bought as baby chicks from a feed store. Nothing special about them, but we sure do love our hens and crazy roosters. I'm collecting eggs to set the incubator this upcoming week. I hope I get more with this coloring and hopefully there are some hens in there for me to keep. I lost a baby chick that was white/black mottled. When it was born it was GRAY, as she got her feathers it was obvious that the dominant color was white with specks of black here and there. BEAUTIFUL little chick. Sadly she's gone.

Crossing my fingers that I get more with this funky looking color so I have something promising for the Aloha Chickens project.
