Where can I find araucanas

Does anyone have araucanas to re-home or know where I can get some? I looked at some hatcheries and they didn't have them either. I want to find a place preferably near Maryland or in the USA. Thanks in advance!

I know cackle hatchery carries them (or used to carry them). Maybe try other online hatcheries.

I checked there before and again they only have the information on them, they don't even have a photo of them and no araucana chicks.

I looked it up and they do have araucanas but they are either $50 or $100 my budget is $40 $100 is a bit much for a chicken.

You will bring up a doc. That doc contains stock codes. Here are the stock codes you will want:

I searched MD using "R20" for Araucana, and there were 5 hits in the MD doc.

FWIW, I am including stock codes for Ameraucana bc it was developed in the 70s to get better results than with hatching/breeding/raising Araucana. Araucana's have self-limiting genetic issues which result in lower hatch rates and survivability - you'll need to look into the details. But once hatched and with a bit of age towards adult hood, I believe the Aracauna's are fine/healthy, but I'm no expert in this breed at all. Because of this self limiting issue, the Araucana are going to be more $$$. Also, few people raise actual Araucana - often passing off other breeds for them, so be aware.

According to the Standard of Perfection, an Araucana has Ear Tufts of good size that match in size "extending from ears in a well-defined curling ringlet" and a Tail the is "entirely absent with no uropygium, saddle feathers flowing over stern" (males only have saddle feathers).

An Americana will not have the ear tufts, but do lay blue eggs, and they do have tails.

Use the “find” function in the word doc. You type in the desired code (like R20) and tell it to find all instances of that code. All word /writing programs like MS word have this functionality -look in drop down menu for “Find”.

no, you cannot buy via NPIP site. this is a site to list those people/breeders/businesses that are certified as NPIP. You will need to do more legwork to find out more. However, they list addresses, business names, farm names, and sometimes telephone numbers on NPIP. You can search CL or FB for them, as well. If a place has gone to the trouble of being NPIP, they surely sell through some outlet (web, cl, other?). Cannot sell via fb (no animal sales), however, there may be a page all about them or their farm, or attached to a fb group.
