I would like to put DE in our dust bath, but I cant find it locally??

I wouldn't recommend it. When they "fluff up: the dust bath material, they also make some of the DE airborne, which means they inhale some of it, and it is highly irritating to the respiratory tract, both theirs and yours.

If you want to add something more natural and friendly than poultry dust to their dust baths for pest control, add some wood ash to the baths.

Does help with mites and ticks? Thank you.

Thank you, I had heard how great it was, but didnt even think about the respiratory problems it could cause.

It helps deter them, but if your birds host mites and ticks already it's better to dust them with a good quality poultry dust, such as Permethrin or Sevin dust.

Well, it can be great in very certain situations.....but the overall claim that it's the best thing (for almost everything) since sliced bread is garbage.

It doesn't work when wet or damp. If you do buy some, read the labels very carefully.
I needs to be food grade and pure 100% DE. Often DE products have very little DE and mostly clays or other substances.

I can get it in bulk for a dollar a pound at my feed mill as they use it as a feed additive to keep grain pests out of feed.
