Background: We have been hatching eggs since Sunday night. I have two broody hens whom had a total of 9 eggs among the two. I remove my chicks because my hens start fighting over chicks and nest once they start hatching, often bullying my bantam hens out of the nest if not killing the chicks when fighting/ hatching.

Early yesterday afternoon I found my bantam hen and two newly hatched chicks in the coop floor rather than in the nest with her last egg. One of my non-broody Maran hens was sitting on her nest instead. So I removed 4 hatched chicks, leaving 1 wet chick with my other hen and 1 chick hatching (I thought was dead but didn't examine, turned out to have die during hatch) and 3 unhatched eggs. Total of 5 eggs/ chicks right?

Well I left for a meeting and later that afternoon, my husband removed 2 hatched chicks and 1 dead chick, leaving what should have been 2 eggs. But when I asked him about it he said there was only 1 egg left and I told him there should have been two. He said that there was not a blue egg my bantam hen as should have been. (which I know was there when I took the non-broody Maran off the nest and put my bantam back earlier that afternoon).

I checked this morning and sure enough.. there is only 1 egg under my other Maran hen and nothing under my bantam..

So where did the egg go??
I looked all around the coop and under then hen.
There is no chick, no egg and no sign of it anywhere.
