It seems lots of folks get rid of their roosters. Are you actually successful finding homes or do they end up in the crock pot? I have two, they are fine for now at 14 weeks, but I can see how roosters can get to be difficult. Better to get rid of them now or give them a chance? Is it difficult to find people who want roosters?

Just gave mine away today. Guy said he has a chicken farm and needs the EE for breeding. I didn't care as long as he's gone. Crowing was getting overwhelming. Neighboor complained. Decided it was time to go before the town comes knocking.

Posted on Craigslist on Friday and he was gone Sunday. Not bad.

I can't hardly give mine away, so I butcher them myself. You can sure try advertising him though, you never know who might be looking for a bird.

I eat mine too, still good on the grill before 15 weeks and grilled bones make killer stock...
.........but have given away or sold several to someone who needed one.

Watch local chicken groups on facebook or use craigslist for posting or answering ads.

The paper is full of free or cheap roosters!! I can't get rid of the boys! I can't bring myself to butcher them, the kids mistakenly named them when they were day olds before we knew we got roosters. I wouldn't care if someone else did it though.

Maybe you've a neighbor or relative that wont mind butchering/helping in return for one of the carcasses. You could at least help with getting the water hot and after deed plucking feathers. I've butchered many birds and still have a hard time on the actual deed and then eviscerating isn't a party either but plucking is just a bit tedious and nice to have a helper.

Water 155F and dunk swish the bird several times. Try a wing feather, if any resistance dunk swish some more. Don't bother starting to pluck until the feathers are almost falling out. So you see with more than one bird you need to bring out more containers of boiling water to add to the large pot to get the temp back up to 155F. This alone is time consuming and certainly something you can aid in. Then get the hose out to fill large pot with cold water and fine clean birds etc. Plenty to help with without killing or disemboweling.
