My chickens move more dirt than a grading company, and I have no idea where they are putting it. They've removed several inches of soil over the past year. More than several in the places they like to bathe. I know some of it stays in the feathers, but shouldn't the bulk of just be redistributed throughout the run? I swear they have a trucking company contracted on the sly. I'd like to put down some sand, but being the far thinking folks we are, we put the run in a place accessible by foot only. To cover the run would take days of trafficking wheelbarrow load after wheelbarrow load. Or maybe I can just have my chickens dustbathe in the big sand pile before being catapulted over the house, back to the run.
