Where do you buy goats?

Goats are usually seasonal breeders, so generally they come in heat August through December. They generally only have kids once a year. I never separated out my buck unless I wanted them to have kids a bit later than January.

ND goats breed all year long. They are not seasonal breeders and the little buckling will need to be separated soon because he might get the Does pregnant even when he is still technically a baby. I'm sure right now he is just doing what comes natural to him. You should post pictures of your goats..

Around here, everyone seems to use Craigslist for all sorts of livestock. I guess it really depends on what kind of goat you are after. There are many reputable breeders around the country, and many have websites too. Otherwise you can also check your local livestock auction.

Mine never did. They had a breeding season.

Really? That would be amazing if they had a season instead of year round. I guess I’ll test it out. I just don’t want any babies being born in the dead of winter.

To everyone suggesting where to buy goats: thank you! I found some. I went on FB 😂 I am personally not a fan of Craigslist but that’s another story. This thread is old, I was just updating since I know I like reading updates from old threads so I wanted to update my own threads if anyone 10 years from now ends up reading them.

Breeding season runs from August until usually December. I would remove the buck at the end of July so I wouldn't end up with January kids. Gestation is 5 months, so you can plan when you want them. After they are bred I always left the buck with them.

Thank you! Right now the buck is new to the girls so he’s all about wanting to mate now. But I’ll definitely keep an eye out and remove him by July if they’re not all pregnant by then.

After this year I’ll try to get them into breeding seasonally whether by their own choice or me intervening and separating them.
