I will be using sand over concrete on my 4x8 chicken enclosure. A nice thick layer. I plan to attach a run to the structure in the near future to get them out. I've read that about once a year the sand should be replaced with new clean sand. My question is, how do you dispose of the old. I'm on 1/2 acre of land, rural area. So I'm wondering how or where to dispose of the old sand.

If you have a compost bin put it in there. That is where we put our used sand. I also find it helps the compost to not clump up and you get a more spreadable compost

I imagine that the old sand would fertilize the dickens out of a flower bed, but I just leave the sand in the run. Over time, I have found that plants around the run grow extremely well. I bet that the decomposed poop leaches out with the rain and feeds these plants. The sand is several inches higher than the surrounding soil.
