Where do you get specific breeds?

Agreed - it would be hard to figure breeds at some feedstores. Luckily, the feed store we happen to use the most has all their standard chicks in one bin (so no one can put them back in the wrong place). They're breeds that are easy for us & the feed store employees to identify.
But... this (and I think many feedstores) do label their easter eggers as araucanas (or americanas/ameraucanas) - that's because the hatcheries they buy from have labeled the chicks that way.

Well, I started out with chicks bought from a feed store, then ordered some from a hatchery, then decided to scrap all of that and concentrate on specific breeds. I have since purchased hatching eggs and breeding stock from breeders, some were shipped some were picked up.

Yes- same here. The hatchery birds are my pets/layers- and I love them all. But then I became interested in a few breeds and wanted to sell chicks/hatching eggs- so I got all breeder birds &eggs. Have fun!

I wanted five pullets, all different breeds, so placed my order with the local feed store. They get deliveries from Belt Hatchery every week so I was able to get the breeds I wanted. They sometimes order extra chicks of the more popular breeds -- RIRs, BOs, BRs and Easter Eggers (though they call them Ameracaunas) -- so people who don't pre-order can get some chicks as well. My gang is twelve weeks old now and looks like they're all girls. whew!

Thanks for the info. You all are very helpful!
