Hey everyone,
My dad has given my hens scratch grains (has corn) for about 8 years now.
after some research I have realized that this can cause fatty liver disease and things close to this. We have started giving them layer feed but it also contains corn and soybean meal and oats. All of these don’t seem to be too healthy for my chickens
where do you guys get your feed? And what is it? And what is in it?

I get Modesto milling feed, corn free and soy free. These are the main ingredients ( the others are different vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements)

Organic Milo, whole, Organic Peas, Organic Sesame Meal, Organic Wheat, whole, Organic Barley, whole, Organic Sun-dried Alfalfa Pellets, Organic Flaxseed, Organic Kelp, dried

I get Dumor organic layer pellets. It says not to give to male birds I’m guessing because of the calcium content but my rooster has been eating it for almost a year and I haven’t had any problems.

Corn is fine, as part of a balanced diet. It's not meant to be the only thing fed, that's totally not okay. I buy a balanced diet at TSC, an all flock feed that's great for chickens of all ages and sexes, with oyster shell in a separate feeder for actively laying hens.

lol you can make them an organic gourmet dinner if you want .. mine get whatever walmart has in stock .. i try to keep a bag of scratch, pellets, and crumbles onhand all the time so they get a mix, i can kindof judge how hungry they are if all the pellets are gone they dont really favor those lol ..

Ok, thank you all for your advice and knowledge on this... I will do my research!!

I've been feeding my hens and pullets after 10 weeks old a Non-medicated Starter Grower 18% Protein feed for about 3 years. It's a completely balanced feed for all ages of chickens male and female minus the Calcium for the egg layers. The corn, grains, and soy are properly balanced with added vitamins, minerals, amino acids and probiotics.

I offer Oyster Shells separately and the egg layers and they take as needed.

I feed this brand too. I order from Chewy.com. My hens love it!
