I keep food and water outside of the coop in the run. Off the back of the coop I have an overhang and I keep it there so it stays dry. My run is secure so I don't have to worry about critters getting in to get their food. As I get older I like to get up earlier in the morning so I don't mind letting the girls out so they can get their breakfast.
