Where is a great place to live and raise chickens in North Carolina

My husband and I plan to move south soon. We have been thinking about North Carolina. Where are so good area's to live in. We want an old farm house with some land. We like the mountains. We definitely want to take our chickens.

come ON, sister! Bring all your birds AND your hubby and join us in NC! It's gorgeous here -- well, most of the time. Sometimes it's hot, but if you move into the mountains you won't suffer too much.

The Western NC State fair happens every year in the mountains. There's the Blue Ridge Parkway in the mountains. There's Biltmore Estate up there, and lots and LOTS of craft schools and museums; the NC mountains are home to some of the finest pottery in the world! The best thing is the people.

Also, up in the mountains, you don't have to get very far out of town to find yourself in the middle of nowhere. There's a North Carolina thread in this index. Dig it up and check it out.

I'm in central NC, near Raleigh. This area is good, but you're going to find it harder to get that old farmhouse that you're wanting. I'd suggest closer to the mountains, or the beach, if you want a lot of land... anywhere but the Triangle for that. Best wishes with your move!

If I had to choose one place that I would like to live in the mountains of NC, it would be Banner Elk. It's gorgeous, country, but close enough to town for supplies. It's like going back in time when you go through that area.
