Where is a great place to live and raise chickens in North Carolina

Gosh I feel at home already. I can't wait. It might be a year before I get there but I will get there. With my chicken of course. My sister moved to NC about 2 years ago. She lives in Midland. She complains about everything to but she was a hair dresser in the city where she used to live back in Maryland. I love the mountains.

Let you know when I am heading that way for a visit.

Hugs

I like the foothills myself. Don't want to go so far up that I can't drive to shows.
Also fairly nice weather and you can have lots of flat places to put houses, yards, coops, lots, barns, etc. Not to mention that land is no where as expensive as it is up the mountain.

Around here one of the largest Realtors is http://www.carolinaproperty.com/
The
foothills part in particular

I'm glad ya'll liked Prestons Thicket. That is where my sister plans to retire, but in the meantime, she rents it out. She really does go all out with furnishings and "cabin" decorations. I've stayed up there myself and it's pretty any time of the year..

Be sure and tell her you saw it on BYC.. *smile*

If I didn't have to work, I'd live in either east Tennesse or Western NC ... love love love that area..

I of course I am partial to the NC mountains - I love it up here and love how cheap it is to live. We have a well and septic so no water\\sewer bill, you take your garbage to the 'convenience center' so no city fees. Taxes are .50 cent on a hundred (wow that's awesome). Plenty of 'free' activities if your a natural outdoors person. People actually wave to you when your driving down the roads - where does that happen.

I recommend Avery county (where Banner Elk is - but a little more expensive, but more people for your diner), Mitchell country, or Yancey county (burnsville is so quaint and more people then Mitchell).

Good luck where ever you end up ... a farm and diner sound GREAT!!!

Have you checked out the sandhills region?
I live on 6 acres out in the country in a house built before 1935. Price wasn't outrageous plus there is plenty to do. Easy to get to either the mountains or the ocean.
I do love the mountains of NC but all the snow?!?! I don't want to be snowed in all winter.

I will visit instead. And the coast I love but not the hurricanes when they hit. I was working in Jacksonville and we had a hurricane hit. It became an island.

Hi All

I am so excited to tell you that we purchased a small Cafe in Maggie Valley, NC. We are coming down to house hunt this weekend. Looking in the Waynesville, Canton, and all other areas close to MV. I can't wait to get there and hopefully meet some of you. Is there anyone close to those areas? I am still learning the counties.

Hugs
Karen
