water and feed ....inside run...? inside coop? really new at this but enjoying my 6week old buff orpington girls...
they are learning their run and the outer area available to them to forage... to night will be their first night in the coop.

is it typical for chickens to sleep from sundown to sun up? sounds like the natural thing to do?

Depends on your set-up. My 9 wk. old chicks are in a tractor and there is enough room for their food and a small waterer inside the coop portion of the tractor. I put it there to teach them that the inside coop area is their "home" to make sure they'll return to it from the run when it's bed time. This also allows them to eat/drink first thing in the morning if I'm not out there to put them in the run the minute they get up. They awake when the sun comes up and sometimes I'm not that fast!

I keep a second, larger waterer in the run at all times. BTW, If you should put their food in the run, I'd recommend you remove it in the evening when you lock them up and put it back in the morning when you let them out. To keep food in the run during the night only encourages predators and mice.
