Has anyone seen my 3 month old silkie? She is gone ... just gone and I am sick over it. I cannot find her anywhere. I even had to make myself check the dog kennels to see if she had wandered to her demise at the paws of my dogs. Not a trace.

I don't know how she could have gotten out. She doesn't usually even leave the coop. She is not very adventurous, and really, even less bright. Anytime she leaves the coop, I have to put her back in. She stands by the ramp at the door and cries in distress. I had to put a ramp up to the water because she would not hop onto the cinder block to get water. The run is covered, so nothing could have swooped in to chick-nap her.

I have looked in every nook and cranny in the coop and run, even under the ramp. Even had a fiasco when I turned a straw bale over to see if she had fallen behind. I felt something crawling on my leg and reached down and felt my pants and thought I had the world's largest bug crawling inside my pant leg. I about had a heart attack and desperately shook my leg to rid myself of the creature ready to disrobe to get rid of whatever it may be. It was only a mouse which my 3 month old barred rock proceeded to chase around the coop. The rest of the chooks were scared of it

Still no silkie.

I have hunted our woods and overturned everything she could hide under. I even stood on the edge of our property and visually searched around the neighbor's coop and yard. I fear that my poor little silkie is gone. The little chick that I did not even want but who managed to steal my heart and make me want more silkies. Gone without a trace, not even a poor, sad, little body to lay to rest.

If anyone sees my poor, lost silkie, please tell her I am desperately searching for her and send her home.

Best of luck. I had a 3 week old silkie chick gone missing once... thought it was gone for good. Coons are abundant in the city. Three days later a guy from the next lot over, found it being chased by one of the junk yard cats. Said it was amazing the junk yard dogs didn't get it. To this day have no idea how it got out of the brooder, cleared the junk yard fence and managed to survive on it's own, 3000 feet away from home.

Thanks for your story silkiechicken ... it gives me some hope. I may have to trot around to the neighbors and ask if they have seen her.

Thanks Teresaann

I told my 2 chicken neighbors ... one other neighbor is farther from the chicken pen and creeps me out, I don't talk to him if I can help it and the 4th neighbors are evil and have a mean dog so I don't go their either. I hope their horrid dog would have scared Dusty enough to not go that way if she was wandering. My other neighbors said that if they saw her they would bring her home but after more hours of searching, I am afraid any hope I had is gone. Poor Dusty.

She is the first chicken I have lost that I am attached to.

I am so sorry. It is awful to not know. I am new to chicken, but have lost a cat similarly. I still miss my Benny Goodcat. I hope you find your silkie.

Put up a sign because we found a chicken at the bus stop and after six months we found out it belonged to the neighbors ( we never knew they had chickens) and he went missing from their home six months ago, but they never thought to put up a lost poster,
