Where or how can I get treatments for spirochetes? -Update I think it is coccidiosis-

Update- from what people I have said I think it might be coccidiosis and I have heard to give the chick Corid but I don't know where to get the medication, since I can't pay to go to the vet.


One of my 6 1/2 week old chicks got a tick on him the other day and I think he has spirochetes. I don't know where or how to get the treatments. I don't rally want to go to a vet unless I have to, I don't' have the money for it. Does anyone know if Tractor Supply might have it?

What are the symptoms you are seeing? I probably won't be able to help but others will want to know too.

well, right now he is extremely unsteady on his feet, he can't stand up when he is still because his leg won't hold the weight. I think the other on might get it too because I found 3 of the same type of ticks on her a day or two after. One tick was imbedded the other two were crawling on her.

If it were me I would treat for coccidiosis with Corid and then give a poultry pack of vitamins in the water afterward (but not during).

Keep in mind that I don't know what is wrong with your chicken but this is what I personally would do.

Yeah I am thinking it might be coccidiosis but I just don't know where to get the Corid. Like I said I don't want to go to the vet if it is not nessesary.

Every farm store including TSC should have it in the cattle meds section under the name Corid or Ampromed (all brands of amprollium.) The small bottles of liquid are usually cheaper and easier to dose, but this time of year even the powder can be sold out. I would call your store and have them hold it for you.

Dosage is 2 tsp liquid or 1.5 tsp of powder per gallon of water for 5 days.
