Where should I buy my chicks?

If your feed store sells chicks, then I will probably check with the feed stores around here. I have located a hatchery/rabbitry near here that sells chicks (local pickup only), but I haven't bought from them before so I don't know what they are like. They do not sell Easter Eggers, but I could buy Barred Rocks or Sex-Links from them. I thought that if I could locate a place to buy Easter Eggers locally, then I would get them and the Barred Rocks from the other place. Otherwise I may order through My Pet Chicken. I have heard good things about them, and the minimum order is quite small compared to many other hatcheries.

MyPetChicken actually orders from other hatcheries - I'm not sure which ones. Meyers minimum right now is 3. Local is always great. Ideal doesn't have a minimum, but you have to buy at least $25 in stock, not including shipping.

Quote: I didn't think of that! Thanks for the tip.

I also didn't know that Meyers minimum was so low -- just as low as My Pet Chicken. I know that shipping from My Pet Chicken is pretty expensive, so now I'm definitely going to look at Meyers and Ideal before I decide where to buy the chicks. Plans for our coop are all drawn up, and we'll probably get materials and start building within a week, so if I get day-old chicks it will be done in plenty of time.

That sounds like a good plan! Cut out the middle man & get directly from the hatchery. I've never communicated with Ideal, but my experience with Meyers has been amazing. They have EE available almost every week.

ETA - check out the Meyer's Meal Maker too - free bird program...it's on their website!
