@aart@Macis Papa thank you both. I figured either place would struggle for light. I prefer the inside, but I agree it need some protection from the dust. Now I just have to figure out how pulleys need to work. I saw someone use bobbins. Will up, over and up work if I ever try the sensor or since I am not going to rely on the photo sensor would you just put it straight above the door? Also how would you attach the string it comes with to the hole in the plexiglass?

Picture of inside door before I painted. It goes several inches beyound the door, and the middle board at the bottom slides out so I can clean out anything they get in the runner/slot.
