I have 4 chickens and built only 2 boxes for them to lay eggs is this enough or do I need 4, one for each chicken???

Also someone told me they like to have a covering, like cloth, hanging down in open part is this true?

Welcome, no, you do not have to have a nesting box per chicken. I have four laying right now and they all lay in the same box, they may change boxes but they all lay in the same one.
Mine do not have a covering on the front. I would think it would be too hot to do that for them.

Actually I think the rule of thumb is 1 nest for 3-4 hens. And it depends on the hens as to what kind of nest boxes work best. Some hens prefer to be up off the floor and in a dark hidey place so a nesting unit mounted on the wall a couple feet off the floor would probably work best. Other hens do fine with a cardboard box in a corner of the floor. Others prefer the woods, bushes, under the deck, a shelf in the tool shed, whatever. lol. Mine seem to prefer the nesting unit on the wall. Try different things and find what works best for your flock.
